This is for an immersive accommodation project where there is a great need for rocks. <em>I'll detail the rest of the project in upcoming posts\ud83e\udd2b<\/em>\u2026 To do as much as possible and at any time, I will create stones from almost nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Material:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cardboard<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tape<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Newspapers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paint<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chalk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For papier-m\u00e2ch\u00e9 glue:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hot water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I start by cutting my cardboard to assemble the faces. The idea is to create lots of different shapes with a different number of faces to get a relatively natural result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"585\" src=\"https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-112943-1024x585.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-335\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-112943-1024x585.png 1024w, https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-112943-300x171.png 300w, https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-112943-768x438.png 768w, https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-112943-18x10.png 18w, https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-112943.png 1163w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On some of the rocks, I hammered and beveled the edges to create a broad representation of rocks. Once I have my shape, it's time to prepare the glue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Making papier-m\u00e2ch\u00e9 glue in large quantities is quite simple: mix flour and water in a large saucepan. As for the proportions, I do as I feel, but most recipes agree on 1 part flour to 5 parts water. To avoid lumps, I whisk the mixture in the saucepan. Once the mixture seems more compact, I turn off the heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"767\" height=\"531\" src=\"https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-113358.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-113358.png 767w, https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-113358-300x208.png 300w, https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-113358-18x12.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 100vw, 767px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I move on to applying the papier-m\u00e2ch\u00e9 to my cardboard. I apply glue to the cardboard, cut strips of newspaper which I place on the glued area, and then spread a final layer of glue over the paper. It's a somewhat lengthy process because the entire cardboard structure needs to be covered. Once the first layer is dry, I apply larger quantities of glue, leaving them loose. I then use paper to smother the glue, creating crevices and protrusions. This adds texture to the structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"792\" height=\"620\" src=\"https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-113531.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-113531.png 792w, https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-113531-300x235.png 300w, https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-113531-768x601.png 768w, https:\/\/hyada.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-113531-15x12.png 15w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 792px) 100vw, 792px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Last but not least: painting the structure! I mix black and white to obtain different shades of gray, and after applying a first base coat of gray, I drybrush with a lighter shade. Finally, I use white chalk to create white joints on the gray surfaces. I blend them so they don't look artificial. We have some super simple stones to make from waste.
