At the end of October, I'm preparing for my aunt's birthday. Since she's a Disney fan (especially Tinker Bell), I wanted to create a personalized gift. However, she's not particularly a fan of Lorcana –in memory of an introduction to the TCG which resulted in more questions than understanding –… Pourtant, comme les illus sont magnifiques, je me suis dit que customiser une carte du jeu pourrait en faire un bel objet de collection ! I quickly chose this generous fairy Tinker Bell, which suits her perfectly! For your information, you can find the illustrator... on her Instagram account .
I've already tried several times using solvents to remove the printing layers without any convincing results so far, so I apply a coat of white acrylic paint to cover it. After this white coat, I make a quick sketch to decide what I'm going to customize.
For this one, the idea came naturally: animals, fairy, warm tones, so obviously, I added Fawn the animal fairy!
I'm applying basics colors... and I lost the card 😞.
Seriously, it's six days until the birthday and I have absolutely no idea where the card is. Plus, I teased my aunt that something cool was up. I turned my apartment upside down, but I'm having no luck, the card is still lost. So I let the days go by, and then one day before, I finally look under a projector under the bed… and there it is! I'm taking advantage of my last few free hours to finish the card.
I paint the remaining colors, wait for it to dry, and then add detail with my Polychromos markers. This is the first card where I've depicted another Disney character. It's incredibly difficult because painting on a 63 x 88 mm card is such a pain. My goal for improvement would be to continue depicting other characters in my future custom cards.
So I finish on time, I apply a coat of varnish, I add a ribbon and there you go, it's ready to be given as a gift!
